In these classes the emphasis is on a gentle yoga practice for mothers, helping them get back in shape; re-aligning pelvic area, strengthening lower back and shoulders, toning abdominals, stretching and relaxing. Parents playfully bond with their new babies and the babies participate, enjoying massage and stimulation as well as being integrated into the breathing and asana practice. This develops babies' awareness and lays a foundation for good health and serenity.
Babies participate actively in classes. They may be on mothers’ tummies, laps, knees, held aloft to strengthen shoulders, given massages. See photos from recent classes at www.bluelotusyogaspace.ca. Babies are also free to lie on their blankets, crawl around, interact with each other, sleep in their carriers or are held by me while mothers are in the postures.
Time: Tuesdays 2 to 3 pm.

(Second session October 26 to November 30)
Location: Blue Lotus Yoga Space, 454 St. George Street. (At Respiro Dancewear – opposite Dance East Studio)
Cost: $75 for each six-week session. Drop-in class: $15
Age: We welcome babies from four/six weeks to crawling
Registration: Please pre-register with me. You can pay at the first class.
The meditation room is available if you wish privacy while feeding. You will need a yoga mat and two blankets; a good size thick one for you to support your back and one for your baby, large enough to lie on and crawl about a bit. Pregnant students are also welcomed and postures will be safely modified. We recommend mothers wait about a month after an uncomplicated vaginal birth, 10 to 12 weeks after a C-section, before beginning or resuming a yoga practice.
