The City of Moncton wishes to advise residents that the ice at Jones Lake is unsafe for skating and will remain closed to skaters for the remainder of the season. Signs have been posted around the lake.
Due to the realignment of Jonathon Creek construction, Jones Lake has had to be drained and refilled several times this winter, which has caused cracks and fissures compromising the ice.
The skating oval at Centennial Park and the pond at Mapleton Park continue to be open for skating. As well, there are many outdoor community rinks including:
Evergreen Park (Evergreen Drive) Ashley Park (Evergreen Drive) Grove Hamlet (Tamarack Terrace) Mapleton Place (Candlewood Drive) Lewisville Park (Edgehill and Glenmoor Drive) Prince Edward Park (Givan Drive) Kaboom rink at Centennial Park (for pick-up hockey)
As well as a NEW community skating rink has been installed in the plaza at Moncton City Hall officially opened to the public on Friday, January 15, 2010. Visit moncton.ca for current trail and ice conditions, or call 853-3516.
La Ville de Moncton souhaite aviser les résidants que la glace du lac Jones n’est pas sécuritaire pour le patin et demeurera fermée aux patineurs pour le reste de la saison. La Ville a placé des affiches à ce sujet autour du lac.
En raison du réalignement de la construction du ruisseau Jonathon, on a dû vider et remplir le lac Jones à maintes reprises cet hiver, ce qui a entraîné des fissures compromettant la solidité de la glace.
La piste ovale du parc du Centenaire et l’étang du parc Mapleton demeurent ouverts pour le patinage. De plus, de nombreuses autres patinoires communautaires en plein air sont utilisables, notamment les suivantes :
